I've recently uploaded a new video of Natalie being very talkative.

There are also a few new photos in the photo gallery.

In the garden, we've managed to have a couple of meals including home-grown Lettuce and Spinach. Hopefully the rest does as well.

In other news, the garden is doing well, with both Lettuce and Spinach showing great growth, and will probably be ready for eating soon. The Tomatos are all growing well, though I don't think they'll be ready to fruit before Christmas like the label suggested.

Two of the Capsicum are growing, and the Passionfruit are also showing an early growth spurt. The Lemon and Mandarin trees obviously grow slower, but are looking healthy.

Great Garden Experiment '08

Over the last couple of weeks I've embarked upon another Gardening experiment.

Hopefully this will result in a variety of tasty, edible fruit and vegetables. Making an appearance in the garden are Lemons, Mandarins, Passionfruit, Lettuce, Tomato, Capsicum and Spinach.

All I really want is for a bit more success than the last garden experiment in 2005. The pictures below show the result of the Lemon, Feijoa and Mandarin trees we planted. The last one is the mandarin.

I guess the moment that really summed up the failure of the last effort was when I accidentally mowed over the remains of the Mandarin tree.

My hopes lie in the raised garden I made. I think the solid clay meant tht last trees drowned when the holes I dug for them filled up with water. This lot should drain a lot better, and has a lot of good soil to grow in before reaching the clay under the grass.

My first iPhone app, Tripzee, is now available in the iTunes Store.

If you feel like supporting a local developer, please go along and buy it. You need an iPhone or iPod Touch to actually play the game, but that shouldn't stop you forking out the measly NZ$4.19 to have the app sitting proudly in your iTunes Applications folder.

iPhone Apps and Baby Photos

As some of you are no doubt aware, I have started a company to do some of my own software development, and hopefully make money from. The company is called Plus 14 Ltd, and my first iPhone app, Tripzee, has been completed. It will hopefully be available in the iTunes App Store early next week.

On the baby front, she is now over 5kg, and 60cm long. At only 5 weeks old, she is already larger than some of the 12 week olds in the coffee group. Photos are being updated reasonably frequently on Flickr, so keep an eye out for them there.

Our gorgeous (and slightly wrinkled) daughter was born at 10pm on the 2nd of August. The labour was thankfully short.

Due Date

...and still no baby.

However, first babies are usually late, and less than 5% are born on their "due" date, so it's hardly surprising.

The waiting continues.

Final Countdown

The baby is due next week. It's funny, but it still doesn't seem real. Andrea has also commented that occasionally she forgets that she is pregnant. I find this odd, but there you go.

Room is done. Cot and change table are assembled, wardrobe is now full of baby stuff, old cabinet from Andrea's Dad is tidied up, repainted and filled. Lots of baby related gadgetry scattered around.

Now it's just waiting.

DIY Madness

Tip of the day: Power tools, large screws and plumbing do not play well together.

Having wall-mounted the dryer, I decided to add some shelves to the laundry to store all the bits and pieces we need. It went well, as I found a couple of studs in helpful places.

After I had finished, I was tidying up when the washing machine and dryer, both in use, finished their loads and stopped making noise. It was then that I heard the hiss and drip and realised what had happened.

Turns out I managed to put one of the screws holding up the shelves straight through the middle of the water pipe supplying the laundry. One centimetre either way and I would have been fine. A shorter screw, and I would have been fine.

Shelves become quite expensive when you have to call a plumber (on a public holiday no less) in order to finish them. Anyway, it's all better now... except for the hole in the wall.

48 Hours - Wrap-up

Firstly, big thanks to all those that helped out this weekend. There were heaps this year, and everyone contributed heaps. Give yourselves a hand.

This year was a very different team from last year; apart from myself, there was only one other person doing it again.

Things went extremely smoothly right from the start. By 11pm on Friday, we had a complete 7-page script, which we ended up using with very few changes in the end. We arrived in our first location at 8am, and started filming at about 9:30am. We finished there by about 2pm, moved onto the second location and finished there by 4pm. I was home capturing footage to my computer by 5.

From there it was just editing - which is actually quite boring work at times - and a couple of special effects. I'd finished the main part of the work by 3am, and managed to get 5 hours sleep.

Today I only had to do the credits, look into music (didn't use much in the end), convert the film to Full Screen (I still don't know why they still have that rule), and put it onto tape to hand it.

All up I finished at about 11:30am. That gave me plenty of time to catch up on sleep a little bit before handing in the finished result just after 5pm.

I'm happier with the result than last year, and am still keen to compete again next year.
